The book is simply a chronological collection of 48 photographs made by Tim during the last five years. The simplicity of the concept is a reaction to the complexity and overwhelming nature of the global news cycle during this time. ‘It’s been an interesting half-decade, to say the least,’ he says. ‘If you had to distill it into a single word, unstable might be an appropriate choice.’

‘With a never-ending soundtrack of horrifying and bleak news rumbling on in the background, my own mental health has taken a relentless beating; I often think it’s a miracle anyone is functioning at all. How can we process this much awful information?’

Photography is Tim’s way of attempting to create order amongst this chaos. He explains that he feels calmer when making photographs, and is compelled to keep doing so, regardless of whether he is working ona specific project or not.

In 2021 he made Japan Nights, a self-published book and an exhibition that was hosted here at the gallery. In 2023 he made East End Pubs, a book for Hoxton Mini Press. Compared to those projects, this collection does not have such a concise theme; it is merely a snapshot of Tim’s practice at this moment in time, 48 images selected from many thousands made since 2019.
