Brutalism in Colour
Photographs of Brutalist architecture as you have never seen it before
Photographer Christopher Hope-Fitch presents his spectacular long-term project ‘Brutalism in Colour’ as part of the 2024 London Festival of Architecture (LFA).
His vibrant photographs reveal the multitude of textures, geometries and hidden colours within brutalist architecture, encouraging viewers to revisit buildings they may have overlooked as bleak, grey and uninteresting.
Close to the Hedge
An exploration of hedges in photography
Why do hedges hold a fascination for landscape, urban and architectural photographers? This is the question posed by Close to the Hedge, an exhibition at the Gareth Gardner Gallery in Deptford.
An open call for photographs that take hedges as their theme drew submissions from around the world. Photographs of hedges, ornamental shrubs, topiary and planted boundaries can reveal boundary disputes, provide visual privacy, conceal the world outside and hide mysteries within.
Aglaia
Jane Lam
As the recipient of the 2022/23 Architectural Photography Fund award, Jane Lam presented her debut photographic exhibition Aglaia. The exhibition drew inspiration from a narrative of generational trauma, focusing on four women in Lam’s family. In this story, all of their names are replaced by the name of a tree, Aglaia.
The project delves into the complexities of womanhood before the defining role of motherhood takes hold of their identities. Lam’s individual story mirrors the history of generations of Hong Kongers, constantly uprooted and separated from one another, and wider experiences of migration.
