Following Ian Nairn’s road trip

Middle England is a photography project in response to the infamous 'Outrage' issue of the Architectural Review, 1955

The project documents a journey from Southampton to Carlisle, following the route taken by architectural critic Ian Nairn, which forms the centrepiece of ‘Outrage’. The impact of humans upon the landscape and socio-economic factors influencing our built environment were photographed along the way.

Featured on Radio Four's Archive on Four episode 'Return to Subtopia', 2016.
